The original press release:

Muddling and Wrestling an Unexpected Trend this Summer
Sauza® Launches Fresh Flavoured Tequila Cocktails—With a Twist

Toronto, Ontario, Summer 2009 – The art of muddling is fast becoming the hottest trend in cocktail culture, and Sauza’s new flavoured tequila recipes have risen to become the perfect partner for this summer’s freshest new cocktailing adventures.

“Muddling is a term used to describe the technique of mashing up fresh ingredients like fruit and herbs,” says Patsy Christie, Mixxit Canada Trainer for Beam Global Canada Inc. “A ‘muddler’ is a bartending tool that looks like a miniature baseball bat—similar to pestle, in a mortar and pestle, for foodies. By twisting downwards with the flat or grated end, this tool makes it possible to incorporate fresh ingredients in drinks. Sauza is taking the muddling trend mainstream, creating the freshest and most unexpected recipes.”

In 2008, Sauza launched the premium flavoured Mango and Açai Berry tequilas which marked major milestones for both the brand and the tequila industry. Sauza Mango became the first-ever mango flavoured tequila available to consumers in Canada, while Sauza Açai was the first açai flavoured tequila in the world. This summer, it’s all about muddling, Christie adds. And to highlight its Mexican roots, Sauza is introducing the Luchador (translation: Mexican wrestler), a special cocktail recipe with fresh strawberry and pineapple that incorporates the technique.

Lucha Libre is a form of Mexican wrestling in which wrestlers called Luchadores wear colourful masks considered so sacred that any attempt at removing an opponent’s mask would be grounds for disqualification. The sport’s spectacular moves include catapulting off the ring’s ropes towards opponents; intricate combinations of punching and kicking in dizzying, rapid-fire succession; and applying complex submission holds. Luchadores often wager their masks in battle and losing the mask to an opponent is the ultimate insult.

People can experience Sauza’s smooth, double-distilled tequila either at home or at the bar. Sauza is bringing back its tasty Mash & Mix promotions where clubbers can create their own muddled cocktails at the Sauza kiosk at various bars and nightclubs across the country. Events will be posted on the Get Fresh With Sauza Tequila Facebook group.
