Save the Sculptures!
Alright, I admit… the title is a bit sensationalistic. It appears the powers that be in ‘no fun City’ land (aka Vancouver) need to hear from the public about the sculptures purchased to be legacy pieces during the 2005 – 2007 Vancouver Sculpture Biennale.
More details after the jump including information on today’s public consultation at the West End Community Centre.
FROM: Vancouver Biennale
SUBJECT: The Vancouver Sculpture Biennale needs your support!Due to the success of the 2005 -2007 Vancouver Sculpture Biennale auction, the Biennale were able to purchase a no. of legacy sculptures to remain in our City. As a result, we need to amend our agreement with the City to make allowance for these sculptures to remain installed in our Park as our current terms only cover “temporary installations” during the exhibit periods only.
These are international caliber sculptures that not only enhance the natural landscape of our city and they are there for the enjoyment of all residents and visitors 24/7, free of charge. The City needs to hear from you directly to insure this is support by the local residents.
I would greatly appreciate if you show your support so that these sculptures can remain in our City and continue to be part of the subsequent exhibits.
- You can email to:artsinfo@vancouver.ca by May 30 or
- Send a letter to the Arts&Culture Office – address in the notice or
- Come to the public consultation meeting on Tuesday, May 20 from 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. (West End Community Centre, 870 Denman Street)
This is vital to the future of the Biennales and please broadcast this message to as many people who work or live in Vancouver as possible.
We are most grateful for your help!
