Restaurant Scoop according to Frances

Here’s an update from Frances at SocialEmpire.com:

Jeff Reid will no longer be at UnWine’d as of Thursday. Gary Riemer will be acting GM for now.

FigMint in the Plaza 500 Hotel opened to the public today.

Beyond Restaurant & Lounge opened July 31st at the Century Plaza Hotel.

    I checked out Beyond tonight for dinner with a friend and it was very good! The venue is very spacious with dining rooms, a bar, and lounge areas. The food was tastefully done and presented along with great service. I enjoyed it!

    At Beyond, if you like creme brulee, you’ll love their mini brulees – flight of four – for dessert! It was so yummy: citrus, vanilla, caramel and chocolate.

    Hmmm… The “UnWine’d” news isn’t surprising. I was there last Thursday, the place was dead, and yet, still they couldn’t get the food out while still warm. The only good thing about that place was the wine list.

    Interestingly enough, food running seems to be an issue at Unwine’d. It seems that the wait staff who centralize around the front can’t seem to get the signal that food is ready. So really, it’s a timing issue.

    There have been a couple cases where Chef Gary delivered our food directly to our table.

    Note to Unwine’d – need to get the wait staff some form of signal that food is ready – an electric shock run through their shirt collar, controlled by the staff in the kitchen might work well!

    The restaurant is owned by Holiday Inn, I’m not sure how they envision the place’s atmosphere to be nor am I sure about the quality of food/service but I’ll tell ya, it sure is a step up from Panama Jack’s!

    Actually, they are trying to improve their wine list and making some changes to their menu. They just hired a sommelier a few weeks ago and he’s working hard already. Their wait staff are all pretty nice and I’ve never had an issue with the food arriving very late or not warm.
