Man, there’s alot of activity happening on the Granville Strip and/or close-to as of recent. The boys at Glowbal and Coast have been busy with their new project, Sanafir, for some time.
Sanafir is located at 1026 Granville Street and opens on Wednesday, May 24th with their VIP, invite-only media and industry launch. Watch this blog for photos from the event and an exclusive look inside the new restaurant.
Here’s the press release that just came my way:
GLOWBAL RESTAURANT GROUP ANNOUNCES OPENING OF SANAFIR RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE
Rock Your Casbah With Tapas From the Near and Far East
Vancouver, BC: The lights and cameras of the Food Network’s restaurant reality show Opening Soon have been chronicling the creation of Vancouver’s next restaurant in the city’s hot nightlife core for months.
The action begins on May 24 when Sanafir Restaurant and Lounge opens at 1026 Granville Street. Its owners are celebrating with an exclusive media and VIP preview.
Ground-up construction has been under way for the latest Glowbal Restaurant Group’s newest addition, a 3,300 square foot, bi-level restaurant that harmonizes the rich culture of the ‘silk route’ with modern innovations and aesthetics of the western world.
With 130 seats on two levels, plus a 12-seat bar, eastern opulence will reign with sexy Arabic accents – richly upholstered beds, hand crafted Egyptian amber urns and harem style draperies. Sanafir – Arabic for ‘meeting place’ – is owned and operated by Emad Yacoub and Shannon Bosa Yacoub of the Glowbal Restaurant Group, owners of glowbal grill & satay bar/AFTERglow and COAST Restaurant.
“Sanafir is inspired by my roots and brings a little exoticism and warm Egyptian hospitality to Vancouver’s lively downtown entertainment district,” says Yacoub.
Executive Chef Heath Cates maintains the Glowbal Group Restaurant’s culinary excellence and has created a menu that includes tapas in trios prepared with the flavours of Asia, India and the Mediterranean. Sanafir will stock a wide-ranging cellar with New and Old World wines to complement the tapas menu.
David Nicolay and Robert Edmonds of renowned Evoke International Design are responsible for the interior design and branding.
Partners in this venture include Sean Riley, COAST Restaurant Executive Chef; Patrick Austin, General Manager; Peter Girges, Managing Partner; and Jack Lamont who is Director of Operations for the Glowbal Restaurant Group and oversees all locations.
