Vij’s Rangoli

Vij’s Rangoli is a great Indian lunch spot. I’ve been there a couple times but that was pre-blog so here I am, raving about Vikram Vij’s newest restaurant venture for the record.

I’ve always enjoyed Vij’s cuisine. Simple, delicious, good ambience and great service. Good value as well. A few months back, Vij opened up Rangoli right next door on Granville and 11th. The restaurant is geared towards providing fabulous lunch fare as well as packaged take away food to consume at home. I should cover that in a future blog.

Today my unnamed cohort enjoyed the Lamb. I enjoyed the Keema which is usually ground beef cooked with onions, cumin, salt, etc. The Keema at Vij’s was his style (a bit different) but nonetheless delicious. It was accompanied by a coconut chutney. I also requested the obligatory pickled chilis and mint chutney and a few extra naans.

On another note, went to La Bodega for dinner. Extremely underwhelmed. Poor value for the food, atmosphere isn’t quite there and service was not really up to par (missed the waitress for 15 minutes there at one point which is unacceptable in a tapas place)…

Thumbs up on Rangoli, thumbs down on La Bodega.

PS – for those of you who are interested in the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies and Research, weekly luncheons are about to start – a note from Daphne Cockerill regarding the next luncheon on the 8th of October:

Hello everyone,

Our first weekly luncheon for the Centre for Indo-Canadian Studies and
Research is being held on Friday, October 8 at 12:00 p.m. at the
University House in Room F131.

The University House is the smaller building located next to the UCFV
Learning Centre (Library) where Madeleine and I had our previous
offices. Access is closer if you continue to drive east past our main
UCFV entrance on King Road, turn right at the four-way stop onto
McKenzie Road and then then take the first or second right turns into
UCFV for parking. There is plenty of signs out front, so you can’t miss
it!

Let me know if you are able to attend, it helps to know for ordering
food. Also, we welcome your guests.
